Hi ,
We are live TONIGHT at 7pm ET on YouTube, Facebook and X. I’ll be discussing “Why Most Blood Pressure Plans Fail — And How to Stay With the Ones That Work.” Join us. What we’ll cover tonight matters.
Today, I want to talk about something that does not get nearly enough attention when it comes to blood pressure:
muscle.
Walking is fantastic.
Daily movement matters.
But movement alone is not the full picture.
If you want better blood pressure, better metabolism, better blood sugar control, better balance, better strength, and a more resilient body as you age, you need to build and keep muscle.
Why?
Because muscle is not just about looking fit.
Muscle is active tissue.
It helps your body handle sugar better.
It supports a healthier metabolism.
It improves insulin sensitivity.
It helps with weight control.
It supports better function and independence as you get older.
And all of that matters for blood pressure.
This is why I want you to remember this line:
Movement is great. Muscle is your metabolic insurance policy.
A lot of people think the answer is simply to “be more active.”
That is a good start.
But if all you ever do is sit most of the day and then take a short walk, you are still missing one of the most powerful ways to help your body function better.
Strength training helps tell your body:
That matters.
Because one of the quiet problems that comes with aging is loss of muscle.
And when muscle goes down, metabolic health often goes down with it.
That can make weight gain easier.
Blood sugar problems more common.
Energy lower.
And blood pressure harder to normalize.
The good news?
You do not need to become a bodybuilder.
You do not need a gym membership.
You do not need a complicated plan.
You just need to start challenging your muscles a few times each week.
Today’s action step is simple:
Do a beginner strength workout using your bodyweight or light resistance.
Here is a very simple example:
Repeat that 1 to 3 times based on your current ability.
Go slowly.
Use good form.
And stop if something hurts in the wrong way.
If you already exercise, great.
Do your strength session today.
If you are newer to this, today is a perfect day to begin.
Start small.
Start smart.
Just start.
Because every time you build strength, you are doing more than working your muscles.
You are helping rebuild the kind of body that is better able to support healthy blood pressure.
That is a win.
So move today.
Challenge your muscles today.
And remember, you do not need perfect.
You need progress.
